Stop drowning your Dermestid Beetles (crickets, small insect pets, etc.) in water! Dermestid Beetle water crystals by The Bone Yard are a semi-solid water source that allows your beetles to crawl over hydrated crystals and extract water unharmed. Mix at a ratio of 1/4 teaspoon crystals to 4 ounces of water and let stand for 2 hours. Adjust ratio according to the quantity and consistency desired. Unused hydrated crystals can be stored in a refrigerator. One 4 oz. packet makes up to 3 gallons of water crystals.

Why use dermestid beetles?
Dermestid beetles (Dermestus maculatus) have been used by museums and taxidermists for over 100 years in the preparation of skeletons. What makes them so ideal for specimen preparation is that they require minimal care, reproduce and thrive at room temperatures, and cannot fly at temperatures below 80ᵒF. Specimen preparation by beetles is often the method of choice by professionals for birds, small specimens, or articulating skeletons.
